Pennsylvania remains blue, with stripes of red

On Tuesday, Pennsylvania voters elected Democrats to key state offices and backed President Obama by a slim margin, but local elections had far more mixed results.

Kathleen Kane (D) became the state’s first woman attorney general, while State Rep. Eugene DePasquale (D-York), the first central Pennsylvanian to hold statewide office since the 1980s, was elected auditor general.

Voters also returned Democratic incumbents to the offices of state treasurer and U.S. senator. Rob McCord was reelected state treasurer while Bob Casey retained his senate seat with an easy victory over republican challenger Tom Smith.

In local races, voters reelected state senator John Wozniak (D-35) and state rep. Scott Conklin (D-77).

But election night was not a clean sweep for the democratic party. U.S. Rep Glenn Thompson (R) easily fended off a challenge from Centre County resident Charles Dumas (D). Kerry Benninghoff (R-171) beat Boalsburg native Christopher Lee (D) for the Pa house district 171 seat.
