The first thing, is that many Americans _could_ be that stupid - well, stupid isn't the right word, intentionally uneducated and miseducated is probably closer. The second thing is that a lot of people are really, really scared, in a really repressed way. Everybody knows deep down that the end of the oil age is coming, and that means oil wars and scarcity. But it's not here yet, so their brain stems tell them the most important thing they can be doing right now is grabbing as much as they can get, while they can still get it. These kinds of people wanted an emperor with iron will, who would take the oil by force and save them for another generation. They still want that. And Bush still satisfies that deep fear and longing. The third is that the corporations and ultra-rich have had decades and billions to plan and perfect their propaganda and political machine. They control the media, who are all just different flavors of FOX. That's a hard force to fight. And lot's more things, almost too many to mention. The big question is how to take advantage of the Bush regime's incompetence?
