The Centre County Historical Society will hold its Annual Meeting and Historic Preservation Awards Ceremony at the Centre Furnace Mansion on Sunday, January 10, 2010 at 3:00 pm. John Ziegler and Bob Hazelton, members of the Preservation Awards Committee, will be giving six awards to individuals and groups for outstanding preservation work in the county. The Historical Society extends its sincerest appreciation for the hard work these individuals have done to preserve and interpret Centre County's history.

The Excellence in Historic Preservation Awards will be presented to:

Jeffrey Dice, supervisor of grounds maintenance, on behalf of the Penn State Office of Physical Plant, for the accomplishments relative the evaluation and care of historic properties, specifically on the grounds of the Centre Furnace Mansion and Boogersburg School.

Ernest Harpster and the Gatesburg Bicentennial Committee for activities related to the Gatesburg Bicentennial celebration and for publishing Glimpses of Gatesburg and Surrounding Areas.

Judy Heald, on behalf of the Centre County Genealogical Society, for the restoration and preservation of the Cedar Creek Cemetery in Harris Township.

John Henninger and the Miles Township Bicentennial Committee for activities related to the Miles Township Bicentennial celebrations and for publishing Brush Valley: Remembering the Past.

Barbara O. Korner, dean of the College of Arts and Architecture, on behalf of The Pennsylvania State University, for the significant renovations to the Borland Laboratory Building.

Robert E. Malcom, for documenting and cataloging modern architecture in Centre County, and presenting information to the public through exhibits.

Please join us for light refreshments, as we review and celebrate the past year's accomplishments. The Centre Furnace Mansion is located at 1001 East College Avenue in State College (the corner of College Avenue and Porter Road). If the parking lot off Porter Road is full, please park in the grassy area along College Avenue. Space is limited!
