Steve Earle

Stictly speaking, Steve Earle is not a country artist - he is a roots rocker. He emerged in the mid-‘80s following the success of rockers Bruce Springsteen and Dwight Yoakam. Earle played stripped-down neo-rockabilly that occasionally bordered on outlaw country. Refusing to conform to the rules of Nashville or Rock and Roll, Earle has never broken into the mainstream but he has attracted a dedicated cult following, drawing from both country and rock audiences. He has also recently taken up acting in the TV series “The Wire”, presenting a satellite radio show and writing his first novel. Steve Earle’s just won his second Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk/Americana Album for his latest album “Washington Square Serenade”. “Washington” is an album that combines songs of love and protest, a stirring chronicle of both the connections between people that make life worth living and the things that must be changed in order to make such connections more possible for everyone.
