Stone Soup News

Most everyone knows this, but just in case you're new to the scene:

Put simply:  Stone Soup Market is dedicated to developing simple and lasting connections between eaters and our region's and state's sustainable farmers.

We research everything we offer for your consumption, health, and enjoyment.  For instance, in our first year of operation [mid-2004/mid-2005] we chose not to carry a popular [Local] cheese whose producers--we discovered--use rBST [an artificial bovine growth hormone] to increase the milk production of that consortium's cows.

We make no assumptions in our dealings with Amish or English farmers.  We respectfully discuss growing and production methods with all farmers and producers, and vet all Stone Soup Market offerings [not just Local, but Sustainable], so you don't have to.  We can put you in human touch with each and every supplier.  That's the way all Stone Soup-participating "butchers, bakers, & candlestick-makers" like it!  It's also your [responsibility and] right as a consumer, parent, or eater, etc.

Let's build the Power of Local together:  from Spring Bank Acres [Rebersburg], Sweet Indulgence Desserts [Pleasant Gap], or Leonard Farm [McVeytown], to Earthsense Naturals Shampoo bars and Soaps [Spring Mills], Radius Toothbrushes [Kutztown] or Sun & Earth Cleaning products [King of Prussia], let's put our noggins together to build the power of Local/PA and Sustainable!

If you want to aggregate the purchasing power of conscientious consumers and responsible production, put it here--literally and figuratively--and we'll all work together.  [Notice how often the word 'together' comes up?  As it needs to be.]

Finally, we're so grateful for the talents, energy, and magnificent karma of my former neighbor and steady pal, Caitlyn Hatzel {sp?  I guess you don't always SpellCheck last names over bikes or wine ;-)}, who has--singlehandedly--brought Stone Soup out of the [Webster's] closet!

Up until Caitlyn's inspired words and pictures, the Stone Soup redux understandably looked like an overflow/fusebox-utility closet for Webster's.  Now, you're caught--coming and going--in vivid, flowing color and Community philosophy, and realize that Stone Soup is alive, well, and awaiting your participation!  Thanks you so much, gal!

Pssst!  Included in that glorious, Community-celebrating mural is a big ol' soup pot painted with chalkboard paint.

1)  We encourage this to be a positive graffiti/stream-of consciousness area [in truth, one of my middle-aged goals is to counter the nihilistic, self-hating/self! name-calling youngster scratch I've read in recent times in places I love in this town [having grown up here], like Zeno's

2)  Free, positive expression is cool and encouraged in our public space--albeit a small space [call it editing]--and we'll put out the chalk and cleaning supplies [in the window by Patti's swinging fish chair [which is for sale]]!

3)  Date and initial what you put up there...

4)  Give each display two days, and then when you're next, write down what you're about to erase in the Stone Soup notebook next to the FREE, community computer [thanks to  Garrison and his Random Acts of Mac] which we'll save and archive, and then let 'er rip!  It's for all to see and use, so share your public [vs. private] gift[s].

Don't tell me this can't be fun!  And guess what: this free exchange can reflect Local at its best!
