Happy winter solstice 2007 everyone! It's the first day of winter, and gray and rainy here, but the days start getting longer now!

The Moon and Mars looked amazing tonight!
My handheld digital camera doesn't do it justice, but the conjunction of the Moon and Mars was quite a sight tonight, Dec 23, 2007. Mars is nearly as close as it ever gets to the Earth, so despite the Moons brilliance, you could see Mars right underneath it, a very rare sight indeed. With the racing clouds and the wind, it was a beautiful night sky. (Mars is the little reddish line/dot under the moon, next to that little pennisula of cloud. Mars was closer to the moon than I've ever seen ANY planet get before - one of those once in a lifetime sights - and a nearly full moon too.)
great shot!
Beautiful photos Bill, yes, even yours with a little digital. We had too many clouds where we were to see the Mars phenom so it's wonderful that you caught it!
Merry Christmas!
