Free Alzheimer’s Training Now Available

To Local Family Caregivers

Home Instead Senior Care^® is offering to help local families manage the challenges of caring for loved ones afflicted with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. Free training for families caring for these older adults will be available February 21st and 28^th at The Country Inn & Suites, 1357 East College Avenue, State College PA. The training is a two-part evening series, beginning at 6pm, light refreshments will be offered.

These free family education workshops will discuss how to encourage engagement, care for yourself while caring for a loved one, and how to manage behaviors such as anger, aggression, wandering and refusing to eat. In addition the training will review the basic facts about Alzheimer’s and how to use the affected person’s life story to plan and provide individualized care. Members of Groundswell, Eco-Action at Penn State, Elk County C.A.R.E.S.
and multiple other groups from Pennsylvania, New York, West Virginia, and
Ohio will be participating in the Marcellus Protest 2011: ³Power To The
People, Not The Corporations² rally to be held on November 18 at Penn
State University in State College, PA.

The rally is a two-part event. The first rally will be held on the steps
of Old Main from noon until 1:00pm. This rally will celebrate the passing
of a voter referendum on November 8th in State College that affirms that
community¹s environmental rights and bans any future natural gas drilling
in State College.

An open letter to the Penn State Board of Trustees will be delivered
expressing concerns about the large amounts and non-disclosure of funding
that the University has accepted from the natural gas industry and its
effect on the objectivity of this taxpayer-funded state university. A copy
of the letter will be made available to the media.

The second event, from 1:30 ­ 3:30pm, will be held outside the Penn State
Conference Center, which is hosting the Marcellus Summit 2011 sponsored by
Range Resources and Chesapeake Energy, among others.

As the industry-sponsored Shale Gas Impact conference in Philadelphia
inspired the Shale Gas Outrage rally, participants plan to have a large
presence outside the Marcellus Summit 2011. This will be a peaceful,
non-confrontational rally with the objective of high visibility to both
conference attendees and the University.
