Jazz in the Attic: Billy Test Trio

Central Pennsylvania native Billy Test is a New York City based pianist, composer, arranger, and educator.  Since graduating from State High Billy Test has performed with dozens of internationally-known jazz musicians, including Dave Liebman, Joe Magnarelli, Rich Perry, Boris Kozlov, Joel Frahm, Tim Horner, Tony Moreno, Marc Mommas, Bill Goodwin, Steve LaSpina, Billy Drummond, Jerry Bergonzi, and Dennis Mackrel.

Test has performed at Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, Merkin Concert Hall, The DiMenna Center, The Blue Note, Birdland, Smalls, Smoke, 55 Bar, Mezzrow, Chris’s Jazz Café and the Deer Head Inn. He is faculty member of the New York Jazz Workshop and the Manhattan School of Music Precollege. And he is presently a member of the selective BMI Jazz Composer’s Workshop.

Test’s piano trio draws from the entire lineage of jazz, from swinging tradition to the avant-garde, with influences from 20th century classical music and beyond. Tonight’s performance in The Attic features Marty Kenney on bass and Curtis Nowosad on drums.  Marty Kenney hails from Alaska, and received his bachelor’s degree from Northern Colorado, and his master’s degree at the Manhattan School of Music. Juno award nominee Curtis Nowosad is native of Winnipeg, Canada, and has performed with Kenny Barron, Dave Liebman, Candido Camero, Marc Cary, and Philip Harper. He is a regular performer on many high-profile stages such as Smalls, Smoke, Fat Cat, among others.
