PA09 A bucket full of Bill

Well the day came and went.  October 12, 2008.  Shuster was invited to debate by WRTA radio in Altoona, WJAC -TV in Johnstown, The Uniontown Herald Standard and the League of Women Voters and he blew them all off.

"We have real problems in this country right now.  We need people of courage down in DC who will do their homework, ask the tough questions, demand real answers, and find the solutions that we need.  We do not need people that are afraid to answer voter questions." - Tony Barr.

Are you better off than you were when Shuster took office?

PA09 Washington is broken

If Washington is Broken…

Why do we send the same old faces back to Washington.

The embedded video contains footage of Bill Shuster (R PA09) partying with the band “Hookers and Blow” and explains that while Shuster was at the RNC, whooping it up with the likes of Glenn LeMunyon, a known lobbyist with ties to indicted former House Majority leader Tom Delay; JLG, a local employer was cutting jobs in Bedford and McConnelsburg, and the Seton Leather plant in Saxton was announcing a shutdown throwing hundreds into unemployment.

PA09 Bill Shuster (R PA09) parties with "Hookers and Blow"

As residents of New Orleans were fleeing Hurricane Gustav, top Republican Party officials donned pink boas and swigged vodka shots at a wild whirl of corporate and lobbyist-paid parties this weekend in Minneapolis-St. Paul.  Sunday night lobbyists with ties to criminally indicted lawmaker Tom DeLay, put on a raucous six-hour party at a downtown bar featuring music by the band "Hookers and Blow." There was no evidence of any actual prostitutes or cocaine. Congressman Bill Shuster (R-PA), a GOP House deputy whip, was seen meeting with a group of lobbyists, who bemoaned McCain's call to tone down the parties which had already been paid for. Shuster said he was praying for the people of the Gulf coast and said, despite Sen. McCain's call to "tone things down," there was no need to curtail corporate parties until after the Hurricane hit land.  – ABC News

PA09 Let's build something!

While Congressional and Senate Republicans stand in the way of Democratic Party initiatives to solve America’s economic woes and Bill Shuster complains about the ineffectiveness of inactivity, 9th District Congressional Candidate Tony Barr works toward real solutions for working people in Pennsylvania 9th Congressional District.  In a statement released on Wednesday July 23rd, The Democratic Party Challenger offers a series of proposals intended to aid Central Pennsylvania’s economic woes.

PA09 Don't count your bills, Bill

Bill Shuster has spent the last couple of days being driven around the 9th District talking up his “Energy Independence act”.  Flashy title aside, HR 6421 is quite probably deader than fried chicken.  The Bill was introduced to the floor of Congress on June 29th without a single co-sponsor.  That means that no one in Congress, not even any republicans, would attach their name to it.  The last energy-related bill that got out of Committee had some 198 co-sponsors.

Responding to Bill Shuster's Energy plan

Recently, Bill Shuster outlined his energy policy.

When Congressman Bill Shuster advises voters to blame Congress for gas prices, we agree. Congress is to blame for much of the present situation.   The point raises one question; Mr. Shuster, aren’t you a member of Congress?

Bill Shuster wants to blame Congress for its inability to act but when Congress did act; it was Bill Shuster standing in the way.  The voters should remember that Bill Shuster, as recently as this past February, voted against the Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Tax Act of 2008, (roll call vote #84 on 02/27/08).

PA09 setting up an upset

According to the website of the Commonwealth Department of State election returns, Democratic challenger Tony Barr received more votes in the April 22nd primary than did the incumbent Bill Shuster (R PA09).  Tony Barr received 57,489 votes, while Shuster received only 56,921 votes.  While hardly a landslide, the 1% Barr edge going into the general election makes an upset in the 9th District a distinct possibility.

“Obviously, we have a lot of work to do” Barr said, “but we are eager to bring our message to the voters in the 9th District.  The Bush/Shuster era hasn’t been good for the 9th District and we are confident that the voters are looking to make a change, but we still have some work to do”

PA09 Cleaning up PA

Congressional Candidate Tony Barr is cleaning up PA a little at a time.  Tony is starting with his own face.  Voters have chided Tony for his chin whiskers and man of the people that he is, Tony has finally come clean, so to speak.  Here is the first official commercial that will actually air.

Removing the Roadblocks with video

This is a campaign blog.

One of the few good lines I ever heard from the comic Gallagher was this, “If the opposite of Pro is Con then the opposite of Progress must be Congress.”  Now, I don’t know where Gallagher lives but I’ll bet that his district has a Representative a lot like Bill Shuster (R PA09)
