Hope you are staying cool. The thought in our minds is, as one article stated, this is what global warming could look like. Given that scientist say one characteristic of climate change is erratic weather patterns, we can only hope that this is not yet the norm. Climate extremes do, however, keep us focused on the job of building an adaptive, Transition community.
Next up on the Calendar, I am giving a workshop July 21, 2012 at Julian Wood Community 215 Julian Woods Ln, Julian, Pennsylvania, 10:00 am – 11:50 am. The workshop title is “Building Your Homesteading Community”. This workshop will build on Ralph Borsodi’s model of the School of Living and the homesteading community it was designed to support. It will address the types of barriers experienced in creating these communities. It will be an interactive workshop.
This model is very close to that of Transition Towns and they are highly complimentary.
More information about the New School of Living project can be found at the Transition Centre Web site, www.transitioncentre.org.
Robert Forsberg will give a workshop that afternoon, 3:00 – 4:50 pm, entitled “Towards A Future Of Abundance For All”. This workshop is related to the Thrive movie (Thrivemovement.com).
To register, contact Ann Wilken at office@schoolofliving.org or 814-353-0130.

Other news:
A Transition Town State College local food group has started to meet and is working to lay the foundation for developing a guide for living on local foods. If you are not already and would like to be on the mailing list for this work group, please respond to this e-mail.
We are also working on an Inner Transition workshop. You can read about Inner Transition in The Transition Handbook and see a description by clicking here. We are in the planning stage for this event.
And we are developing a workshop about networking; likely in August. It will be about face-to-face networking and networking between organizations but will include a brief excursion into social networking. The outcome will be greater clarity on your own network and how to use it to help bring about a more sustainable community.
September 8th we will cosponsor an energy expo, Light Step, Right Step, with the State College Borough.
More coming soon,
Bill Sharp for Transition Town State College
